Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly summoned Trinamul Congress Rajya Sabha MP K.D. Singh for questionning in the Narada sting operation case. The notice was served to him last week, sources claimed.

Mr Singh has been asked to appear before the CBI’s anti-corruption branch in the first week of the new year, sources revealed.

The investigators want to record his statement to go to the root of the sting operation in which a dozen Trinamul leaders was accused of taking cash for favour.

According to sources, Mr Singh will be grilled about the funding of the sting operation on the Trinamul leaders.

It is unclear whether the parliamentarian would appear before the CBI or not.

The agency’s move comes after Narada CEO Mathew Samuel who conducted the sting when he was working with Tehelka, an investigative journalism media house, claimed to the CBI during his questionning that Mr Singh had funded around Rs 80 lakhs for the sting.

Mr Samuel later quit Tehelka and joined Narada.

The central agency may also ask for evidence from Mr Singh of the transaction for the funding. In March this year Mr Singh and two others were booked in a case on cheating charge by the Kolkata police.

The case was related to the alleged misappropriation of Rs 2.53 crores of the investors of Alchemist Group of Mr Singh. It was initiated after Mr Samuel claimed that it was Mr Singh who funded the sting operation on the Trinamul leaders.
