Employees in the shop were threatened at gun point as the robbers decamped with jewellery worth a few lakhs.
Kolkata: A gang of four armed miscreants looted a jewellery shop at Jodhpur Park in South Kolkata on Thursday. The incident took place at Gariahat South Road. Masked men wearing raincoats barged into the shop after allegedly hitting the security guard with the butt of a gun.
Employees in the shop were threatened at gun point as the robbers decamped with jewellery worth a few lakhs. It was raining cats and dogs at the time of the crime.
“We were threatened at gun point. They were four and all of them were wearing masks. So we could not see their faces. They may have been in the age group of 20 –30,” said an employee of the shop.
There were three employees in the shop, including two women. The miscreants carried a bag with instruments required for breaking glasses or cutting wooden frames. Soon after the crime, they fled the spot.
A team from the anti- robbery section of the detective department and officers from the Lake Police Station visited the spot and questioned the employees.
“The CCTV inside the shop has not been working for the past few days. We are scanning the CCTV outside the shop and those of the adjacent ones for further leads. We have also been informed that there were some other gang members were waiting outside the shop during the loot,” said a sleuth.
