IIT professor slips to death taking selfie
The body was later taken out from the ditch by locals. It has been sent for post-mortem at Kharagpur Town Hospital.
Kolkata: A middle-aged professor of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur slipped to death in an abandoned mine while clicking a selfie with his son on Sunday afternoon.
Joydip Bhattacharya, the victim, was the assistant professor at the department of ocean engineering and naval architecture of the premiere academic institution. He took his son and daughter to the abandoned mine at Gholgeria for a day-long trip.
Reaching there the trio started clicking selfies. Dr Bhattacharya and his son, who were standing on the edge of a height fell into the ditch full of water after they lost balance as their feet slipped.
Dr Bhattacharya's daughter alerted the locals by shouting. While the professor's son was rescued alive immediately and was admitted to a hospital, his body went deep inside the ditch. The body was later taken out from the ditch by locals. It has been sent for post-mortem at Kharagpur Town Hospital.
The first class first M.Sc. in Mathematics from Jadavpur Univ-ersity Bhattacharya joined the IIT-Kgp as an institute research scholar in July of 2002 and did his PhD Hydrodynamics (Water waves) from there in 2008. Since July 2013, he was posted in department of ocean engineering and naval architecture.
