TMC man murders own party member

Kolkata: A Trinamul Congress leader was arrested by the police from Mumbai for the murder of another TMC leader over a faction feud in Burdwan East.

The accused, Shahidullah Sheikh, is the member of gram panchayat samity of block no 1 in Ketugram. He was caught on May 26 from Nagri, where he had taken shelter after travelling from Madhya Pradesh, where he had fled to after murdering Zahid Sheikh, president of the same panchayat samity.

Shahidullah was produced at the court in Mumbai, which allowed the Burdwan police to take him on transit remand on Saturday. He is to be brought by a police team to the district.

Shahidullah is the fifth accused to face arrest in the case that was initiated against 15 persons including him. On April 12, Zahid was shot dead by a gang of miscreants over an internal feud in the party. He was on a motorcycle on Badshahi Road, en route to a salon from a party office. His bodyguard, who was driving the two-wheeler, managed to survive the attack.
