Cops bust arms unit in Tiljala, arrest four
A sizeable cache of semi-automatic improvised pistols, six rounds of magazines and 50 rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition were recovered from the unit.
Kolkata: Sleuths from the port division of the Kolkata police busted an arms-manufacturing unit at C.N.Roy Road under Tiljala police station area in the wee hours of Friday and arrested four persons.
A sizeable cache of semi-automatic improvised pistols, six rounds of magazines and 50 rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition were recovered from the unit that was functioning in the garb of a bicycle repairing shop.
“The four persons: Sourav Kumar, Md Sonu, Md Raju and Md Sarfaraz Alam, who have been apprehended, hail from Munger in Bihar. They were running a factory without a valid license,” deputy commissioner, port division, Waquar Raja said.
Investigations revealed that the accused were into a racket of manufacturing illegal arms by hiring expert labours from Munger.
After manufacturing them in the workshop, the arms were sold to dealers, who in turn would sell them to potential buyers somewhere between Rs 35,000 & Rs 50,000 apiece.
The arrests came after custodial interrogations of two persons: Afroz Ahmed and Imtiaz Ahmed of Munger, who were nabbed by the West Port police station for possessing illegal arms on July 24.
Various instruments used for arms manufacture were also recovered from the Tiljala unit. The house had been taken on rent Rs 8,000 a month.
