Kolkata: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday asserted that the BJP-led NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi would come to power at the Centre for the second time after winning the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with more than 300 seats. Branding the opposition parties as “Kauravas” he also predicted the defeat of their Mahajot (grand-alliance) in what he called the “last battle of Mahabharata” while addressing “Save Democracy Rally” of the BJP at Arambagh in Hooghly.

Mr Deb reasoned that whenever a coalition government came to power at the Centre, it did not last long. Mocking his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee as “Dhritarashtra” he claimed that she has dug her own grave to be ousted from power.

The Tripura CM told the rally: “Do you want a weak government or a strong government? It has been proved in the past general elections that whenever a government of Mahajot came to power it could not last more than two and half years.”

Lambasting the Trinamul Congress supremo he elaborated: “Now is the turn of the last battle of Mahabharata which Didi started from the soil of West Bengal. But she forgot that this soil is of independence, self-esteem and dignity. You have brought all the thieves on this soil. This holy soil will not show you mercy. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, around 125 crore Indians will elect Mr Modi as the PM again. The BJP-led NDA government will come to power with more than 300 seats.”

Mr Deb added: “In the last battle of Mahabharata which will be fought through EVMs in the next few months, the Kauravas will be on one side while the Pandavas will be on the other. The Indians will win, not the Mahajot.” Accusing Ms Banerjee of perpetrating “injustice” since coming to power he asked her to seek apology to the people for her role. Mr Deb also slammed the Trinamul chief over the violence in the last panchayat elections in the state which witnessed bloodbath.

“Why are you playing the role of Dhritarashtra while your party workers are killing the women in front of their children? You are only bringing your end. Neither the BJP nor Dilip Ghosh (state BJP president) is bringing your end. You have dug out your own grave yourself. Mahabharata showed that the Kauravas had to accept defeat in front of the Pandavas due to the blind role of Dhritarashtra. You and your Kauravas will face defeat this time also,” he claimed.
