Kolkata: Four members — all boys — of a family were killed in an accident after a speeding dumper rammed into their house at Raniganj in Burdwan. The victims were Rohit Kumar (19), Suraj Kumar (18), Satish Kumar (12) and Shishu Kumar (14). Rohit, Suraj and Satish were brothers. Shishu was their cousin.

Early on Wednesday the stone-chips laden dumper was coming from Panchami in Birbhum. While running along National Highway 60 it suddenly lost control and turned turtle before ramming into the house at Amrasota village. The four boys who were asleep were killed after they fell trapped inside.

Cops of the Raniganj police station and local residents took out them and rushed them to Raniganj District Hospital where they were declared brought dead. Although the driver of the dumper fled, his helper was caught by an angry mob which handed over him to the police only after thrashing him.

In the morning the locals also blocked the road in protest of the accident. They demanded the arrest of the accused driver who is absconding. The road blockade was lifted after the police intervened. The dumper was later removed. A case has been initiated by the police on rash driving charges.
