CM Banerjee keeps door open for tie-up with Sonia Gandhi
Trinamul however sources indicated that the meeting is yet to be confirmed as the schedule has not been fixed.
Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday kept the door ajar for meeting UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi during her New Delhi visit in wake of a call for opposition political parties’ unity to stop the Bhartiya Janata Party from coming to power again in the next Lok Sabha Election.
On the possibility of meeting Mrs Sonia Gandhi she said at the state secretariat: Nabanna, “I have heard that she has not been keeping well. If there is an opportunity, I will meet her.”
According to sources, if the Trinamul Congress supremo meets Mrs Gandhi, she will invite to her grand rally on Federal Front with top leaders across the country at the Brigade Parade ground on January 19 which she announced on July 21 at the Martyrs’ Day rally.
Trinamul however sources indicated that the meeting is yet to be confirmed as the schedule has not been fixed. But speculation is rife about the two key leaders’ meeting since the Congress has made it clear about supporting either Ms Banerjee or Bahujan Samajwadi Party leader Mayawati for the Prime Ministerial candidate.
Ms Banerjee however informed that she would meet former BJP leaders Ram Jethmalani, Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie and MP Shatrughan Sinha who are known to be disgruntled with the present Bhartiya Janata Party leadership.
