Mumbai: The police has arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the shocking incident where the body of an unidentified woman was found chopped into 13 pieces and packed in plastic bags in Panvel on Wednesday.

Mohammad Ajiz Mohammad Ali Mujavar, the accused, allegedly committed the crime because he found out that Sultana Niyaz Khan, the deceased woman he was dating, was having an affair. Sultana (35), a mother of three, had filed for divorce from her husband and was living separately in Sukhapur, Panvel. During her stay, she grew close to Mujavar, a rickshaw driver.

While they were dating, Mohammad grew suspicious that Sultana was having an affair with someone else and slipped into depression. When the accused realised she was cheating on him, he allegedly hatched a plan to kill her. The accused rented a house in Panvel to kill Sultana and asked her to visit him there. Mohammad had done a recce of the house and kept all his weapons in place, sources said.

When Sultana visited him Tuesday night, he hit her on the head, immediately knocking her out. Following this, he slit her head with a butcher knife, cutting her into pieces with a sickle and an axe, sources said. After putting her body pieces into plastic bags, he took them near a farm in Panvel in his autorickshaw and disposed it there.

When the body was found, the police also found a bag full of clothes and sent the body for post-mortem. The following night Sultana’s brother approached the Panvel police and lodged a missing complaint on December 29. The police then asked Sultana’s brother to identify the body, but since the body’s face was cut diagonally, it was difficult to identify it. When the police showed the clothes worn by the body, her brother identified it as his sister.

When the police tracked the location of Sultana’s mobile, they found Mujavar’s number and location to have been at the same spot at the same time. Crime Branch officials immediately nabbed Mujavar from his residence and after rigorous questioning, he allegedly admitted to killing Sultana.
