Chargesheet against 12 in Kamala fire

Rajendra Patil, the 13th accused in the case as it is awaiting the prosecution sanction for him.

Mumbai: Two months after a fire killed 14 persons and gutted two pubs at Lower Parel’s Kamala Mills compound, the NM Joshi Marg police on Wednesday submitted its chargesheet against the 12 arrested accused in the case at a Bhoiwada court.

Those chargesheeted include the owners of the pubs, Mojo’s Bistro and 1 Above.

The police also made two arrests on Wednesday in the case, a fire officer and a civic officer. The chargesheet ran into 2,706 pages. The  police is yet to file a chargesheet against the fire officer

According to the police, the two accused arrested on Wednesday  have been identified as Dinesh Yashwant Mahale, sub engineer, G/south ward, MCGM and Sandeep Shivaji Shinde, assistant divisional fire officer, Worli division. Police has taken their custody and they have been charged under the section of culpable homicide not amounting to murder of the Indian Penal Code.

The chargesheet includes the statements of 250 witnesses, fire reports and forensic reports. The police has already booked and chargesheeted the owners of the two resto pubs, Abhijeet Mankar, Kripesh and Jigar Sanghvi of 1 Above for violation as emergency exit on the floor was shut. Vishal Karia was arrested for helping trhe Sanghavis and Mankar to flee.
