Mumbai: Incensed by the death of a fellow doctor, Dipali Lahamate (23), due to rash and negligent driving by Napean Sea road resident, Shikha Jhaveri, on March 24, and the ease with which she managed to get bail, doctors of civic-run Nair Dental College have started an online campaign at #Justicefordipali, seeking stern action against Ms Jhaveri.

Additionally, students have started a campaign on the college Facebook page. After Ms Lahamate succumbed to her injuries on March 30, the medicos have also started an online petition on www.change.org, seeking justice for her.

According to Ms Lahamate’s batch-mate, Dr Manish Padmane, the people who took her to the hospital were passers-by while Ms Jhaveri did not even bother to take her to hospital. Dr Padmane said, “The closest hospital was Saifee at Charni Road or St. George or G.T. Hospital. But they first drove her to  a small medical set-up, which was not equipped to handle serious cases. They were then directed to Bhatia Hospital. I guess that might be the cause of her condition worsening as she was not treated during the golden hour.” Dr Padmane said that he would fight against the corrupt system till Ms Lahamate got justice.
