Nine gold bars worth Rs 30 lakh recovered from aircraft
The official informed that the collective worth of the seized gold was Rs 2,973,652.
Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) on Monday recovered nine gold bars worth over Rs 29.73 lakh from a Jet Airways
(JA) flight at the international airport. Acting on a tip-off, the AIU of customs searched a Jet Airway (JA) flight which had arrived from Dubai, an official said.
The customs official said, “While rummaging, Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials recovered nine gold bars with foreign marking, collectively weighing 1,049 grams. Theunclaimed bars were covered with white adhesive tape and hidden below the cushions of one of the seats of the aircraft.”The official informed that the collective worth of the seized gold was Rs 2,973,652.
The gold was seized under provisions of the Customs Act due to “reasonable belief” that it was being smuggled into the country, he said.
