Police crack girl's murder in 4 hours
The 20-year-old victim was stabbed to death by her boyfriend following a spat.
Mumbai: The Azad Maidan police cracked a murder case in four hours by arresting a man for stabbing his 20-year-old girlfriend to death over reasons that are still being ascertained. The girl’s body was found lying in a pool of blood at the Oval ground on Tuesday by locals who then informed the police. The victim’s parents and the accused boyfriend had been searching for the girl in Fort area since late Monday.
The deceased was identified as Nasrin Shaikh (20), who was employed with an eatery ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ in Fort area. The police arrested her boyfriend Salman Shaikh, who had also joined the search with her father. Investigators said that the girl would usually leave home by 8 am every morning for work. But when she failed to return home on Monday evening, her father Umar Shaikh (45), a scrap dealer based in Mumbra, had begun a hunt for her.
The police control room on Tuesday received a call about an unknown woman lying in pool of blood at Oval Maidan. A police team rushed her to GT Hospital but she was declared dead.
The girl was stabbed in the stomach twice over a spat between the couple. The police however said that the accused had allegedly planned the murder beforehand. The victim’s father had suspected her boyfriend’s role in the untimely death of his daughter and hence the police picked him up for questioning.
During the course of investigation he allegedly spilled the beans and revealed that he had met the girl and and stabbed her following a spat.
“We have arrested the accused and further investigation is underway to ascertain facts and find out what triggered the murder,” said an officer from Azad Maidan police station.
A case of murder has been registered against Shaikh and he has been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
