Karjat college tutors say yet to be paid for 16 mnths

Mumbai: Around 250 teachers of University of Mumbai-affiliated Yadav Taskaonkar College of Engineering and Management in Karjat have allege that they have not been paid since the last 16 months. Apart from their salary, they claim to have not been paid even the provident fund (PF) since 2013.

The college that includes a pharmacy college, two degree colleges, two diploma colleges, a management college and a school, started in the year 2005. The teachers allege that every year, the University of Mumbai  conducts a local inquiry committee (LIC) report after inspecting the colleges. “Every year, a report is formed after the LIC inspection, which states that the teachers in the colleges are no paid but yet no actions are taken,” said a teacher of the college, on the condition of anonymity.

According to the teacher, there were initially around 300 teachers but now only around 250 are left. “The teachers who left thought the management will clear their dues if they leave. But nothing of that sort happened. We have been working without proper payment since years now,” said the teacher.

 When The Asian Age contacted Dr. Nand-kumar Tasgaonkar, the president of the college, he rubbished all the allegations made by the teachers. He said, “All the allegations the teachers are making about the salaries is baseless.”

When asked about if the teachers are being paid, initially Dr. Tasgaonkar agreed of not paying ‘some’ of them, but then said, “There were problems of payment as since the last three to four years we are getting only 20 per cent admissions in our colleges. Nevertheless, we are trying our best to not let it affect our teachers.” He added that since last seven months, the teachers are being paid on time.
