Mumbai: The MIDC police has said that it may reopen the case of alleged rape against a founder-director of an Andheri-based IB school, and question him about the same. The decision was taken after the Bombay high court on Monday pulled up the police for its “cavalier approach” towards the probe.

A senior officer told The Asian Age that no details could be divulged at the moment as the matter was still sub-judice. The paucity of evidence and witness testimonies had led the police to close the case two months ago. Furthermore, the places associated with the alleged crime had no CCTV cover even as the accused and a co-accused rebutted allegations.

In its defence, the police said that the rape case was registered by the victim’s mother in May this year, after which the complainant went for a holiday, delaying the probe. The accused too was out of the country, coupled with late registration of the case, all of which resulted in loss of golden time required to detect the case.

Navinchandra Reddy, Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) zone 10, said, “If the court orders us to reopen the alleged rape case against the accused duo we will comply by it.”
