Mumbai Metro-3 noise rouses Marol locals' anger
MMRC, implementing agency of Metro-3 underground corridor has claimed that it aims to complete 20 per cent of civil work in 2017.
Mumbai: People residing along the Colaba-Seepz Metro-3 corridor at Marol village are having a tough time with the noise and pollution caused by the heavy machinery for the underground corridor. Locals complained to the implementing agency of the project Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) that the contractors are carrying out work throughout the night.
Gloria Moraes, a resident from the area, said, “We understand that the project will upgrade the infrastructure of the city but if the work is ongoing in the night how are we supposed to sleep in the night.” Residents have claimed that the contractors begin civil work at 8 am and continue till night.
“We do not have any problem of them working till late in the evening. But start around 10 pm again and continue till early morning. The work is not on the public road that the work can be carried in the night but it is inside BMC ground and working in the night can be avoided,” said another resident.
Incidentally, MMRC, implementing agency of Metro-3 underground corridor has claimed that it aims to complete 20 per cent of civil work in 2017. MMRC managing director, Ashwini Bhide, said, “This is the only way we can finish the work in a speedy way and there is nothing wrong in it. Also, I would advise the residents to get in touch with out local team in their area to solve their problems.”
However, P. Anbalagan, member secretary of MPCB could not be reached for comments. The Metro 3 will have 27 underground stations and will be a crucial north-south link where it will connect major central business districts (CBD) such as Nariman Point, Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Seepz in Andheri.
