Mumbai: The NM Joshi police has questioned over 100 eyewitnesses to ascertain the reason behind the eruption of the fire that killed 14 on Friday last week.

However, no eye-witness has been able to help the police to arrive at a conclusion. The police has questioned the survivors who were present at the two pubs – 1Above and Mojo’s Bistro.

Sources at the police station said, “On Friday night, more than 150 people were present at the spot, and we are trying to get a clear picture of how things unfolded that led to the fire and ended up in 14 people being dead, injuring 31 others.” The source added that the CCTV cameras and the recorder have been destroyed in the fire, hence there is no digital proof which can prove how the fire was started.

On condition of anonymity, an officer close to the investigation said, “A few witnesses told the police that they saw the fire breaking out on the 1Above rooftop bar. The witnesses added that the fire spread so quickly, it made the customers go crazy, and everyone started running for their lives.”

The officer also added that some eyewitnesses said that since everyone was busy trying to rescue him or herself, there is no clarity over what happened.
