Visit elderly woman: Bombay HC tells police

As per woman sub-inspector Anupama Kendre, Smt. Carvelho is in good condition and is properly looked after.

Mumbai: The Bombay high court has directed the Mumbai police to pay regular visits to the house of an 86-year-old woman to monitor her welfare and file a report to the court in the first week of January. According to a petition filed by the elder daughter of the elderly woman, her younger sister allegedly treats her mother in a cruel manner.

The vacation bench of HC comprising of Justice Sarang Kotwal was hearing a Habeas corpus petition filed by Mrs. Melba Figueiredo, an NRI woman who is settled  in UK. She alleged that her mother is in custody of her younger sister and she is treating her mother cruelly and expressed apprehension that there is threat to her life. Figueiredo further alleged that her sister had forcefully had transferred some money from her mothers account to her account.

 As per woman sub-inspector   Anupama  Kendre, Smt. Carvelho is in good condition and is properly looked after. Petitioner lawyer Ashok Sarogi had filed affidavit-containing emails sent to her by younger sister. Emails show that the mother is in serious danger.

The court then asked public prosecutor to verify those emails and see whether it had been sent from the actual email address of the younger sister. The court kept the matter on January 10 for further hearing.     .
