MUMBAI: In the wake of a 16-year-old student’s alleged suicide in Badlapur after failing the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations on Wednesday, the Maharashtra board’s officials have asked students who did not clear the exam not to lose hope. Students who have failed the exam can start filling the forms of re-examination tests that will be conducted in July-August 2018.

“The re-examination can be another door for students who could not make it in the first attempt. They have opportunities so no student needs to lose hope or give up.  By giving a re-examination, they can clear the exam and carry on with their degree colleges without any major interruptions,” said a senior board official of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), Mumbai division.

Once the students apply for re-examinations, the board will notify them via colleges about the exam dates.

However, if a student is unsatisfied with his or her marks, they can opt for re-evaluation by filling the form in their respective college. “Before re-evaluation, the student can apply for a photocopy, which costs Rs 400, of their answer paper and get it checked,” said the official. Moreover, 52 HSC students in the Mumbai division who have been debarred from two examinations for copying and cheating can give their exams in March 2019.
