Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has appointed a committee to review policy on dry days in the state. After receiving  the report from the said committee government will make uniform policy about dry days.

According to sources, the number of dry days in the state could be reduced and implemented uniformly in the entire state.

As per the existing rules, every collector has power to declare dry days in his respective district but there was no uniformity in that process which resulted in some places having dry days unnecessarily.

State excise minister Chandrashekhar Bavankule on Saturday told reporters in Nagpur, “The state government has decided to bring uniformity in declaration of dry days in the state and has appointed committee for that. According to local festivals and events, every city and district collector declares dry day. But the process needs to streamlined.”
