Taximen's Union wants minimum fare hiked to Rs 30
The CNG price has increased but our fare has remained the same. The rise in fuel prices has adversely affected the income of taxi drivers.
Mumbai: The Mumbai taximen’s union has demanded an immediate revision of the minimum travel fare to Rs 30. The union has sent a letter to state transport minister Diwakar Raote and threatened to start an agitation if the fare is not revised to Rs 30 immediately.
Justifying its demand for an increase in minimum fare from the existing Rs 22 to Rs 30 (for 1.5 kilometres), the union has cited the hike in prices of compressed natural gas (CNG).
“The CNG price has increased but our fare has remained the same. The rise in fuel prices has adversely affected the income of taxi drivers. Since the last fare hike, the CNG price has increased five times,” said A.L. Quadros, general secretary of the taximen’s union.
“We want to give the government a chance to fulfil our demands. But if the government fails to take a decision, we will have to start an agitation,” he added.
