Hospitals record 777 cases of gastro in June
Residents of Mumbai are facing monsoon ailments such as stomach flu, viral fever, cold and cough.
Mumbai: Eight cases of dengue, five of leptospirosis, 310 of malaria, 94 of hepatitis and 777 of gastroenteritis were reported in civic hospitals in June 2019 alone, as per a report submitted by the civic health department to the state health department Monday.
Residents of Mumbai are facing monsoon ailments such as stomach flu, viral fever, cold and cough. Viral and bacterial infections are the main threats hence people need to adopt preventive measures and visit doctors and not indulge in self-medication, said experts.
Dr Padmaja Keskar, executive health officer of public health department said, “Dengue, leptospirosis, malaria and gastroenteritis are under control compared to last year. Activities like daily disease surveillance; early diagnosis and treatment; implementation of immediate control measures; information, education and communication (IEC) activities; prompt analysis of reports and management guidelines by the EPID department etc. are contributing factors for reduction of cases.”
However, an increase in cases of hepatitis is being seen in L Ward (Kurla).
