Police arrests eight for stealing goats in Deonar slaughter house
The Deonar police examined the CCTV footage to track down the main accused.
Mumbai: The Shivaji Nagar police arrested a gang of eight persons in Ghatkopar for stealing goats. The accused person used to pose as meat sellers to sell the goats. The plan was plotted keeping in mind the upcoming Bakri-eid.
According to Deonar police officials, the accused identified as Swapnil More (27), Shahid Khan (28), Shankar Dhotre (33), Imran Shaikh (27), Iqbal Pathan (36), Asif Qureshi (30), Salman Shaikh (20) and Abdul Razzak Khan (30), Shahid.
All the accused are unemployed and wanted to get into some business to earn easy money. They knew that it was not easy for goats to be smuggled out of the market and also the stolen goats do not fetch a good price outside. Hence he hatched a plan and pretended to be a seller. The police has seized at least ten goats worth three lakhs from them.
The main accused Dhotre rented a place in Deonar slaughterhouse for a goat enclosure and hired seven more people to help him in stealing goats. The other accused would loosen the rope of the goats from other enclosure and would lead them to Shahid’s enclosure. This was going on since last few days. But the other traders got wind of this as their stock began to decrease. They then complained to the Deonar police station.
The senior inspector Dattatray Shinde formed a team headed by PSI Vijay Chandan and asked them to investigate the matter. After monitoring the market, they came to know of the gang of thieves operating in the market. They even examined the CCTV footage. They spotted an accused identified as Shankar Dhotre who was taking away the goat. The police detained Dhotre for questioning, and he spilled the beans. The police is now trying to ascertain the number of goats that have been stolen and if any other accused is involved in the case or not.
