LPG blast kills 1, hurts 4 in Malad
The impact of the blast was such that it caused the wall of a nearby chawl to collapse.
Mumbai: One person was killed while four others sustained grievous injuries after an LPG cylinder exploded at MHB colony at Malwani in Malad on Sunday.
The injured were rushed to Kandivali Shatabdi Hospital. Out of four injured, one is said to have received 80 per cent burn injuries.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) disaster management cell, the incident took place at around 9 am on Sunday.
The impact of the blast also triggered a wall collapse at the colony. “The cylinder explosion caused wall of a nearby chawl to collapse. Some people were trapped but were pulled out,” said a fire official.
One woman, identified as Manju Anand, was trapped under debris but was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Out of the four victims, two have been identified as Shital Kate and Shiddhesh Gote, who were discharged as they had suffered minor injuries. Mamata Pawar sustained 80 per cent burn injuries and is in a critical condition, while Ashwini Jadhav suffered 15 per cent burn injuries but is stable.
Meanwhile, Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over loss of life and directed the authorities to take action.
