Mumbai: In a major relief to residential societies, state revenue minister Chandrakant Patil has stayed recovery of Non-Agricultural (NA) tax. Maharashtra Societies’ Welfare Association chairman Ramesh Prabhu earlier met the minister along with BJP Mumbai president Ashish Shelar and put forth various difficulties faced by societies due to notices issued for recovery of NA tax.

While there was a stay on recovery of NA tax till July 31, 2016, revenue authorities had been lately sending notices to recover NA tax with arrears calculated on the basis of ready reckoner rates of August 1, 2016, resulting in housing societies in the city receiving bills to the tune of lakhs of rupees.

Hence, Mr Prabhu met Mr Patil along with Mr Shelar, and requested the minister to do the needful in the matter so as to provide relief to common people. Mr Patil granted stay on recovery and asked principal secretary Manukumar Shrivastav to find a solution to the problem.

Recovery of NA tax had been started in Mumbai and possibly a few other areas in the state. Hence, Mr Patil’s stay will be applicable in all these places, sources from the revenue department said.
