Naigaon cop dies in bike accident near Matunga

Matunga police station has registered an accidental death report (ADR) in this case, and is looking into the matter.

Omkar Yerunkar was with on his way to meet his cousins in Dadar.

Mumbai: A 26-year-old police constable, Omkar Shripat Yerunkar, attached to Naigaon police station, Dadar (Unit-11), died in a road accident Sunday night. The deceased succumbed to grievous head and chest injuries sustained when the motorbike he was riding slipped on Matunga Bridge and rammed into the road divider. He died on the spot.

Constable Yerunkar, a resident of Kalyan, was going to visit his cousin in the vicinity along with a female friend. The duo had left from Yerunkar’s place of work in Dadar and was headed to Kalyan. When they reached Babasaheb Ambedkar Road in Matunga, the bike allegedly slipped and rammed into the divider, killing the constable on the spot. The duo was immediately rushed to Sion Hospital, where Yerunkar was declared dead on arrival while his female friend sustained minor injuries on her legs and arms.

Police sources said that Yerunkar was riding the bike sans helmet when the vehicle slipped and rammed into the road divider. Matunga police station has registered an accidental death report (ADR) in this case, and is looking into the matter. Yerunkar’s female friend is being treated at Sion Hospital.
