Women jumps off building with five years old son, dies
According to Rabale police officers, who are investigating the deaths, the deceased identified as Shobha Walumbe (32) and Arjun (5).
Mumbai: A 32-year-old mother and her five-year-old son died on Tuesday after she jumped off from the sixth floor of a construction site into a deep water-pit, with the kid tied to her with a scarf.
According to the Rabale police, the woman allegedly committed suicide, killing her son as well, as she was frustrated with her poor financial and health condition and did not wanted to be a burden on her father-in-law. The incident occurred at Airoli’s sector 17.

The woman was living with her father-in-law in Rabale area. Her husband who was suffering from some liver disease committed suicide last year by hanging himself to the fan.
Police said, “Her father-in-law is sole earner in the family. He worked as garbage collector in Navi Mumbai area and earned very little. Shobha was detected with some disease which used keep her ill and her five year old son needed to get into the school but the family didn’t have money to pay for his school.”
Police officer further added that, “Shobha left home on Monday and wandered around the city with her child, as they didn’t have money to cook food on Tuesday. Then she took shelter in the under construction building and on Tuesday around 9 am she tied up her child to her waist and jumped down from the 6th floor.”
Senior PI of Rabale police station, Pradip Tidar said, “Some labours called us and informed about the incident. We immediately went on the spot and took both of them to the hospital where they were declared dead. We have received a suicide note and we have registered ADR in the matter.”
