Mumbai: The Antop Hill police has registered a case against Shri Sanatan Dharam school and trust, and booked them for negligence for causing the death of a minor girl after the school’s slab fell on her while leaving. The incident left the girl’s mother, another student and his mother injured. The school, surprisingly, is continuing to hold wedding functions today and even held one last night.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 4 pm when the senior kindergarten students’ section was leaving and the mothers of the two students - Muskaan (5) and Ayush (5) had come to pick them up when the school slab, under which the mothers were waiting, fell. The name of the mothers is Rahisa and Saroj devi. While all four of them were rushed to the hospital, Muskaan died before admission and the rest sustained serious injuries and are recuperating.
When The Asian Age visited the school, it found that the school had been shut for the day citing the death of a student. Richa Thapar, principal for the Hindi primary section said, “I was in my office and rushed down. But by the time the school staff reached, all the injured had been taken to the hospital. She added that the deceased minor, Muskaan was studying in the English medium school. “The principal of the English section is on leave since two days,” she said.
Surprisingly, the school building was decorated with festoons and even a pandal had been set up in preparation for a wedding scheduled for Thursday.
