Maximum temp dips but heatwaves still prevails

The maximum humidity levels recorded for the day was 93 per cent, against normal average of 67 per cent for February.

Mumbai: While the heat-wave conditions prevails in Mumbai, temperatures in the morning dipped from 37 degree Celsius on Wednesday to 33.4 degrees on Friday, around  degrees above normal, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The minimum temperature recorded for the city was 21.4 degrees at Santacruz observatory. The weather note by IMD stated that heat wave conditions prevail at isolated places over coastal Saurashtra. Meanwhile it has also predicted slight fall in maximum temperature over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada during next two days.

“The prevalence of anti-cyclone circulation in Arabian Sea and the warmer easterly winds which is from land towards the sea has led to the heatwave conditions,” said an IMD official. The weather department is also expecting the heatwave conditions to decrease in coming days. The maximum humidity levels recorded for the day was 93 per cent, against normal average of 67 per cent for February.

However, with the dip in temperature seen on Friday, officials have stated that the mercury is going to remain the same for other two days as well. Meanwhile Mumbai’s air remained ‘poor’ with Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded as 251 on Friday. Areas like Borivali, Malad, Andheri, BKC, Mazagaon and Navi Mumbai recorded ‘very poor’ AQI (300-400).
