No need for permit to use MBMC as title
Deshpande has further stated that since it was not registered, the administration had no authority to prosecute those who flaunted the MBMC name.
Mumbai: While the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is yet to receive an official confirmation about the registration process of its monogram, it has come to light that any one can use the title, Mira Bhayandar Mahanagar Palika (MBMC), for naming an entity or a business establishment.
In an official reply to the office bearer of a trade union, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Swati Deshpande stated that since the title is yet to be registered under the Copyright and Trademark Act, anyone could use the name without any permission from the civic administration.
Deshpande has further stated that since it was not registered, the administration had no authority to prosecute those who flaunted the MBMC name. However, the certificate of registration under the seal of trademark registry confirming ® symbol was still awaited, sources said. “This means that if a person displays the MBMC title on board of any illegitimate business, the officials will remain mute.” said RTI activist Shabbir Kanorwala.
At present there are 95 civic representatives in the MBMC, but the number of people flaunting civic logos on their vehicles in the twin-city seems to be far more.
