4 get bail in BMC file tampering case
A BMC clerk has already been arrested in the case.
Mumbai: A sessions court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to four persons, including a developer in connection with a case where somebody tampered with the noting made by municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta in a land record file.
The commissioner had noted that the BMC “should” challenge a court order in the high court, but somebody changed it to “shouldn’t” challenge. A BMC clerk has already been arrested in the case.
Sessions judge M.S. Azmi on Monday granted conditional bail to developer Gyanprakash Shu-kla, his son Nikhil, their relative Prabhakar Shu-kla and their employee Brahmadev Pandey. The judge has asked them to attend the court twice a month till the charg-esheet is filed. He also directed them to cooperate with the investigation by providing a specimen of their signature so that a further probe could be carried out.
The prosecution’s case is that the tampering came to light when the file was being sent for filing of a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court, challenging a high court order directing restoration of the land admeasuring 13,674-sqm at Majas in Jogeshwari (east) to its original owner. The property is partly encroached by slums.
