Mumbai: The MMRDA is likely to give metro and monorail car shed development projects to private players, according to a recent urban development department (UDD)
notification.

Private parties will be given the opportunity under the accommodation- reservation principle where they have to hand over 50 per cent of the built-up area i.e. car shed with the remaining 50 per cent to be used as their developmental rights.

Metropolitan commissioner R.A. Rajeev confirmed the move and revealed that the decision was taken prior to the notification.

“It will cross-subsidise the work. The idea is to cross-subsidise the cost of the metro. It depends on availability of land. We have not decided it for any particular land yet. Accommodation reservation is a tool for the acquisition of private land for a public project, provided our activity can be fulfilled in the 50 per cent area,” he said.

Meanwhile, MMRDA is exploring options for the depot for metro line 2A (Dahisar to D.N. Nagar) and metro line 7 (Andheri east to Dahisar east).
