Mumbai: Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray on Tuesday said that no system in the world could have prevented the waterlogging in Mumbai, due to amount of rainfall that the city received in a day.

He denied that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)  was at fault for Tuesday’s situation in Mumbai and said that water receded within three hours.

He also asserted that the BMC is tackling the rainfall-related issues in the financial capital.

He added, “I wouldn’t say that climate change is to be directly blamed for these rains, but it is happening across the world. It wouldn’t be right to say that we were not prepared. Pumping stations can pump water at the rate of 1,000 cubic metres per hour. What do we do if rain exceeds that?”

Meanwhile, in an embarrassment for the Sena, which  controls the Mumbai civic body, waterlogging was witnessed outside party chief Uddhav Thackeray’s residence, Matoshree in Bandra on Tuesday as rains lashed  Mumbai overnight.
