Selfie lands 4 train stuntmen in prison

Accused also snatched mobile phone while performing stunts.

MUMBAI: Four persons were arrested in connection with a robbery and performing stunts putting the life of themselves and others at risk in broad daylight on Thursday. The accused had made a video while snatching a cellphone from a commuter at Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Nagar while on a running train and performing stunts on July 30. The video went viral and later the Wadala Government Railway Police (GRP) tracked the four accused.

The arrested accuseds are Mohammad Ali Amir Ali Shaikh alias Mamma (19), Mohammad Jaiyaid Shaikh (19), Rohit Gajanan Chaurasiya (20) and Shehbaj Mohammad Javed Khan (18), who are school dropouts. The GRP has registered a case under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Panel Code (IPC) and section 37 (1) of the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused were sent to police custody till August 4 by a court.  

According to the GRP, three teams have been formed to track down the accused. The teams went to various places of the city. Mohammad Jaiyid Shaikh is a resident of the Mumbra, while other three accused were from Kasaiwada in Kurla.

The persons have been performing the stunts between Chunabhatti and Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Nagar on July 30 during 1.30 pm to 1.40 pm. As the train depart from GTB, one of them is shouting ‘Lelo and Lelo’ mobile and later one robbed a mobile from the standing passenger at GTB Nagar. Taking a cognisance of the viral video, the GRP headquarter have directed to Wadala GRP search for them.           

A GRP official said that three teams have been sent to search in Mumbra, Kurla, Chunabhatti and GTB Nagar as the video was viral in this region. All four have been detained in late night on August 1.
