Mumbai: Rail fracture cripples Harbour Line services
The fracture lasted from around 6.45 pm to 8.15 pm after which, both platforms were rendered functional.
Mumbai: Yet another rail fracture, this time at Wadala, paralysed the harbour line cancelling around 10 services and more than 30 delayed after only one platform was left for both Panvel and Andheri services.
The fracture occurred at platform no 1 due to which all services were shifted to platform no 2, causing a series of trains to be stuck one behind the other for nearly an hour and a half. An official on condition of anonymity said, “It took as long as it did to clear the problem as part of the track had come off and needed to be changed completely. This required our staff to cut and weld parts if necessary; something very technical and complex. There was at least a 15 to 20 minute delay and the problem was acute since we had to co-ordinate running of both Andheri- and Panvel-end trains from only one platform”.
The fracture lasted from around 6.45 pm to 8.15 pm after which, both platforms were rendered functional. Commuter Aakanksh Bajpai (25), travelling from Vadala to Mahim, was one of the many affected because of the delay. She said, “I am waiting for more than 25 minutes and I think, I will now go to Dadar instead. Initially, I was thinking the train would start in 10 minutes but the time just kept getting extended.”
