Mumbai to experience light showers

Mumbai: Even as the summer has arrived in Mumbai, the city is likely to witness rains in few parts in the coming days, according to weather experts. Within the next 24hours, an upper air trough is expected to develop over Mumbai and adjoining regions, resulting in light showers.

Even though the winter season is over with the onset of March, the city’s temperature has remained normal with maximum recorded at 32 degrees Celsius during 24 hours since Saturday. The minimum temperature too has not shown much of an increase at 20.2 degrees Celsius in the same period, as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data.

Weathermen have stated that dry winds are prevailing over the entire Maharashtra region at present, but soon an upper air trough is likely to develop over coastal areas of South Gujarat and adjoining areas Coastal Maharashtra. “Due to this trough, clouding is expected to increase over Mumbai city and adjoining areas, which may result in very light rain for short period over Mumbai and its suburbs such as Thane, Kalyan, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, Sanpada and Virar,” read a report by Skymet Weather, a private weather forecasting agency.

However, the trough will gradually weaken and dry and warm conditions will again prevail in the city after Tuesday, according to Skymet Weather.

Meanwhile, the clouding has increased humidity levels in Mumbai. “The city’s temperature has been mostly on the pleasant side due to the cooler north westerly winds over the region in the last few days. Now the humidity levels have increased as compared to last week,” said an IMD official. Mumbai recorded maximum humidity levels at 93 per cent in the Colaba observatory.
