Mumbai: Teen kidnaps 11-year-old for Rs 6 lakh, detained
The police interrogated her and found that the girl was a customer of the boy's mother who earns her living by working as a tailor.
Mumbai: In a bizarre incident, the Bhiwandi police detained a 17-year-old girl for allegedly attempting to abduct an 11-year-old boy in order to make easy money. The incident came to light after the boy escaped from her custody and succeeded in reaching his father’s shop, by the time the ransom call demanding Rs 6 lakh was already made.
After getting their child back, the parents lodged a complaint with the Shanti Nagar police who asked them to go ahead as per the instructions of the accused. The police laid a trap and nabbed the girl after she came to collect the ransom.
The police interrogated her and found that the girl was a customer of the boy’s mother who earns her living by working as a tailor. The accused would frequently visit their home and knew the boy, who referred to her as aunty. The accused hatched a plan to make quick money by kidnapping the boy.
“When the boy left from his tuition, the accused lured the boy to come with her and later made an extortion call to the boy’s mother. She threatened to harm him if Rs 6 lakh ransom was not paid,” said a Thane police officer.
While walking with the accused, the boy found her suspicious and gave her a slip and fled. He landed at his father’s shop and met his mother who had rushed to inform her husband about the kidnapping. The parents then approached the police and lodged a complaint.
The officials asked them to keep a bag without money as per the girl’s instructions. When she came to collect the bag in Shivaji Chowk area, the police apprehended her and found that she was a juvenile. The police questioned her when she revealed that it was her plan to make quick money.
The police registered a case against her as per section 364 A (kidnapping for ransom) of the Indian Penal Code against the girl. She will be produced before the juvenile justice board, officials said.
