Thane cops arrest Assam constable in CDR scam
The investigators sent the phone numbers found with the accused to Assam police for action.
Mumbai: Key information Thane police obtained in the call detail records (CDR) scam has helped Assam police register a fresh case and arrest a police constable there.
The arrested constable had been in touch with some of the accused in the CDR scam pertaining to illegal acquisition of CDR. The investigators sent the phone numbers found with the accused to Assam police for action.
The suspect, identified as Bhubaneshwar Das, allegedly sourced the phone numbers from the computer of a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) official of Assam police. Thane police may seek the custody of the suspect.
“Based on the information we found in the probe, we informed the Assam police. They have registered a fresh case in the incident. We are taking legal opinion on seeking his custody for interrogation in our case,” said Abhishek Trimukhe, deputy commissioner of police (Thane crime branch). Das had allegedly sourced CDRs of several persons, whose names Thane police refused to reveal at this stage of the investigation. Das is attached to the Haflong police station’s cyber cell. This helped him source the CDR records fraudulently.
Earlier, the Thane crime branch had arrested a constable from Yavatmal in Maharashtra in the case. The suspect, Nitin Khawade, 29, was also attached to the police cyber cell and had easy access to the CDRs.
In all, 12 people including Rizwan Siddique, a lawyer, and Rajani Pandit, a private detective, were arrested in the case.
