Rajourie's family alleged that he was depressed and had mentioned being harassed at work.

Mumbai: Sanjiv Rajourie (34), an assistant director general in the department of telecom, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan. The Powai police has registered an accidental death report (ADR) in the case and is investigating the same. Rajourie’s body was sent to Rajawadi Hospital for post-mortem, which shows that he died due to asphyxia.

Officials in the Powai police station said that the deceased, who was working as an additional director general in the MTNL office in Saki Vihar, was a resident of the BSNL Colony in Powai. The deceased had rented a room in the Hotel Lakeside Residencies in Powai despite staying in the same area, at a walkable distance of 10 minutes, and was found hanging in the hotel room on the eleventh floor. Sources revealed that he had checked into the room 20 minutes before he was found hanging.

Navinchandra Reddy, deputy commissioner of zone 10, said, “We have registered an ADR and are probing the case. The post-mortem report said that the cause of death is asphyxia.”

No suicide note was found near the body, but his family alleged that Rajourie was depressed since last few days and had mentioned being harassed at work. On Wednesday, Rajourie had reserved a room from an app-based booking service, and checked in around 11.30 am. He asked a waiter to bring him water and ten minutes later when the staff returned to the room, he found Rajourie hanging from the ceiling fan. Apparently he had used his wife’s dupatta to hang himself.

The exact reason for Rajourie taking this extreme step is yet to be ascertained. However, his family alleged that he was being harassed in office.
