Mumbai: The state Anti-Corrupti-on Bureau (ACB) is in the process of issuing summons to the superintendent and dean of JJ Hospital in connection with the bribery case involving a kidney transplant patient. Officials said that the two arrested accused had been dealing with the patient’s file since September 18 when it was put before the coordination committee for clearance and no anomalies were found in it.

The investigators need further clarity on what led to the delay in either clearing the request or delaying it after the coordination committee met. It has come to the fore that the patient, Jalla-ludin Khan, was kept hanging ever since the committee meet for a no-objection certificate. “The crime is against humanity, and we will investigate it thoroughly. The guilty won’t escape,” said Sanjay Barve, director general, ACB.

The arrested accused have been identified as Tushar Savarkar, public service officer, JJ Hospital, and Sachin Salve, organ transplant coordinator, Raheja Hospital, where Khan’s transplant was scheduled to take place.

“The meeting was conducted to ascertain if the donor and receiver are physically fit to undergo the process and if all the said procedures have been followed. Such meetings are attended by a panel including the dean, donor and receiver (if need be),” said an ACB officer.
