Mumbai: In a suspected case of a one-sided love affair, a schoolgirl was brutally stabbed by a 22-year-old youth in front of her mother in Bhayandar on Wednesday morning. The 14-year old girl, name withheld, sustained multiple stab injuries and is recuperating at a hospital in Kandivali. The police has arrested the accused Vinod Kashyap (22), who did odd jobs for a living.
A police team led by senior police inspector, Rajendra Kamble swung into action and apprehended Kashyap from Kandivali, a few hours after the crime. "Since they resided in the same locality, the accused was known to the girl and her family. Preliminary investigations suggests the crime is the fall out of a one-sided affair,” said Mr Kamble. According to police, the incident occurred at Jesal Park subway near the Bhayandar railway station at around 7 am on Wednesday. Police said that the victim was on her way to school, accompanied by her mother, when Kashyap accosted them inside the subway and pushed her mother. Before the girl could react, Kashyap pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed her four times on her neck, stomach and face. He then fled from the spot. The girl was rushed to the Centenary Hospital, where she is recuperating.
Kashyap was booked under sections 354, 3017 of the Indian Penal Code and under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012. The accused was sent to custody after he was produced before the District Sessions Court, Thane on Thursday.
