Tulli questioned for lack of fire safety

The police has registered a case against Tulli and business partner Yug Pathak for allegedly building illegal extensions.

Mumbai: Duke Tulli, co-owner of Mojo’s Bistro - one of the pubs gutted by Friday’s fire at Kamala Mill Compound, Lower Parel – was questioned in connection with one of the four FIRs registered with N.M. Joshi   police station.

The police has registered a case against Tulli and business partner Yug Pathak for allegedly building illegal extensions. The police questioned Tulli about Mojo’s Bistro’s alleged lack of fire-safety measures.

The fire on Friday, December 29, 2017, charred Mojo’s Bistro and another pub, 1 Above and claimed 14 lives, injuring several others.  

The police on Thursday called in Tulli for questioning in connection with the fire. Earlier on Sunday, the police questioned Pathak who said that he left the Kamala Mill premises at 2.30 am on the night of the incident and asked the managers of Mojo’s Bistro to stay back and cooperate.  Tulli  said that he was not present at the site when the fire broke out early on December 29.

S Jayakumar, additional commissioner of police (central region) told The Asian Age, “As part of the probe, the police is questioning all accused parties and their statements are being recorded.”

Acting on the BMC’s complaint, three fresh FIRs were registered by the N.M. Joshi police station on Saturday as part of its investigation into the death of 14 persons in Friday’s fire that burned two pubs at Kamala Mill Compound.

The police has registered a case against the owners of Mojo’s Bistro, P22 and Kamala Mill for constructing illegal (unauthorised) extensions in their respective properties under sections of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning (MRTP) Act.

In addition to Pathak and Tulli, the police has also questioned Kamala Mill owner, Ramesh Govani.
