Congress: PM Modi government in departure lounge

Mumbai: A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that the Congress had abolished the separate agriculture budget in Karnataka, former Union minister and senior Congress leader Anand Sharma Thursday said that the BJP was lying about it.

Mr Sharma denied scrapping the agricultural budget to The Asian Age, he said, “Where did you read this? Are BJP leaders scholars? Don’t believe the BJP’s claims to be true.”

State BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari, however, said that the BJP-led government had brought the separate agriculture budget in Karnataka, which was recorded on the floor of the Karnataka Assembly. At that time, B.S. Yeddyurappa was the chief minister of Karnataka. But in 2013, when they lost in Karnataka and the Congress came to power, the agriculture budget was abolished. “Now, the Congress wants to bring the separate agriculture budget at the Centre. What is the logic behind it?” he asked.

Meanwhile, in a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Sharma said “The time is over for Mr Modi to threaten and mislead the people. The PM and the BJP government is in the departure lounge.”

Mr Sharma also accused Mr Modi of lowering the level of the political discourse, saying that his language was ‘full of bitterness and violence’. He was at the party’s manifesto launch for for the Lok Sabha polls, in Mumbai .

About Mr Modi’s criticism of the Congress manifesto, the Congress leader said, “The PM has lowered the political dialogue. We cannot touch a low like him. His speech is full of bitterness and violence. He insults his political opponents like personal enemies.”

He said that a commission would be set up to probe the last five years’ deeds of the Modi government. We will fix the responsibility, the former minister stated.
