Mumbai: A fire broke out on Thursday in a building housing a medical college on the premises of the BYL Nair Charitable Hospital. There were no casualties, fire officials said.

Four fire tenders were deployed to put out the blaze at the civic-run hospital in the Mumbai Central area, said a fire official.

“We received a call about the fire at 1.20 pm and firemen were immediately rushed to the site,” he said.

The fire was noticed on the first floor of the college building inside the hospital campus, which was evacuated. While the cause of the fire is yet to be known, the hospital’s management claims that it was due to short circuit. Further details are awaited.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s disaster management department received the emergency call in the afternoon following which the fire brigade reached on the spot and cleared the area.
