21-year-old hangs herself from fan
Shirke was alone inside her room when she hanged herself from a ceiling fan and committed suicide, says Worli police.
Mumbai: A 21–year-old second-year engineering diploma student at St. Xavier's Technical Institute in Mahim, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at Sant Mirabai Girls' hostel at Worli. The Worli police suspects that she was depressed over not performing well in her ongoing engineering exams and could have taken the extreme step due to that.
The incident happened on Thursday evening at 6 pm. Shirke was alone inside her room when she hanged herself from a ceiling fan and committed suicide, says Worli police.
Jitendra Pawar, Senior Police Inspector, Worli police station, said, “No suicide note has been found from her room. She was a quiet person and hardly used to interact with anyone. We have recorded the statement of her family members.”
Pawar said, “When her friend peeped through the keyhole, she saw Sheetal hanging from the ceiling fan. She then called the warden, who fainted on seeing the girl.”
Shirke was rushed to state-run Poddar Ayurvedic hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Shirke was from Shahapur and is survived by her parents and two siblings. Shirke was staying at the hostel for the past 18 months. She had appeared for a few papers and a few other exams were pending.
