Expedite Bhujbal trial, says Anjali Damania
Maharashtra is one of the 12 states where such courts will be established.
Mumbai: Social activist Anjali Damania has demanded that a fast-track trial be conducted against senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who was granted bail by the Bombay high court on Friday, in the money laundering case against him.
A Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Navin Sinha had, on December 12 2017, directed the Centre and state governments to set up special courts for the trial of the cases against Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assembly as 13,500 cases are pending across the country against the 1,581 politicians in courts. Maharashtra is one of the 12 states where such courts will be established.
Ms Damania, who is a complainant in the money-laundering case and fought the legal battle against Bhujbal in the high court, said, “Though Bhujbal got bail and he will come out, the case against him is not over. The trial should be expedited and I will try to make it happen.”
