Mumbai: The Bombay high court has asked the petitioners in a PIL to provide the details of students belonging to minority institutions whose fees were not reimbursed by the state, even though the centre has made provisions.

The petitioners had alleged that though the scheme was started to ensure that the dropout rate was lowered, state’s non-payment of the fees was defeating the purpose of the scheme. The court also questioned the state as to why it was not playing a proactive role in implementing the scheme. Both the petitioner and state have been asked to file affidavits in this regard.

The petitioners alleged that while the scheme was meant for students in the age of 6-14 years as stipulated in the Right to Education (RTE) Act, students across the state had failed to benefit from it as the state had failed to reimburse the amounts.
