University results should be out by July 31: Vidyasagar Rao
If the results are delayed beyond 45 days, the university is liable to submit an explanation to the governor through the vice-chancellor.
Mumbai: Taking cognisance of the delay in the declaration of results by the University of Mumbai (MU), the governor of the state and chancellor of the varsity, Vidyasagar Rao on Tuesday directed the vice-chancellor of MU, Dr Sanjay Deshmukh to declare all the pending results by July 31.
The governor also asked the vice-chancellor to submit to him a detailed report in accordance with provisions of section 89 of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, explaining the strategy and road map for declaration of the results on time. As per section 89 of the said act, the university has to declare results within 30 days of examinations, with a permissible deadline of up to 45 days.
If the results are delayed beyond 45 days, the university is liable to submit an explanation to the governor through the vice-chancellor.
According to governor Rao, “The VC has to set up a war room at his level, where the VC, along with the other functionaries of the university, shall monitor progress regarding declaration of results.”
Governor Rao further directed the VC to add extra manpower to finish the task and submit a daily progress report to the government and to the chancellor’s secretariat. The governor stated, “The additional chief secretary, higher and technical education Sitaram Kunte to depute a government representative to monitor the progress closely in real time and to give feedback to the government and the chancellor’s office.”
In January, the MU had decided to waive off the pen-and-paper assessment process and digitise its evaluation system but it faced various barriers as the university could not find enough bidders for the project.
