Parking near bus stops to attract fine
A letter has been written to Amitesh Kumar, joint commissioner of police (traffic) earlier this week.
Mumbai: In a bid to remove the encroachment from the bus stops, the BEST committee has written a letter to the traffic police allowing it to fine people whose vehicles are parked close to the bus stops. According to the committee, most commuters avoid taking the bus because sharing auto-rickshaws and taxis are stationed near bus stops. BEST committee chairman, Ashish Chemburkar confirmed the development to The Asian Age.
Mr Chemburkar said that there is a provision for not parking of the private cabs, share taxi or auto-rickshaws within radius of ten foot from the bus stop. However, this rule is being violated by the auto-rickshaws and taxi drivers across the city. As soon as ticket checkers go to traffic constable for filing a complaint against them, they run away from the spot. Hence, the BEST has demanded from traffic police to delegate the power of charging fine to the unruly drivers who park their vehicles near the bus stop.
A letter has been written to Amitesh Kumar, joint commissioner of police (traffic) earlier this week. He said that the ticket checker inspector would collect the fine and deposit to the traffic department. The BEST is also planning to put yellow mark ten foot away from the bus stop.
Mr Chemburkar also claimed that it will not only help to generate the revenue to state exchequer, but also to BEST buses whose rider ships have been reduced due to encroachment.
