15 pleas filed in HC against BJP candidates
Several petitioners have also mentioned the use religious personality for soliciting votes.
Mumbai: As many as 15 petitions pertaining to the recently conducted Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) elections have been filed in the high court by the losing candidates, citing a range of issues like incomplete submissions, intimidation, incorrect declaration of assets and criminal cases.
Several petitioners have also mentioned the use religious personality for soliciting votes, which is a clear violation of the election code of conduct. A major chunk of these petitions are about the violation of the Representation of People Act, and have been filed by the losing candidates of the Shiv Sena against their rival Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), who emerged victorious.
Petitions have also been filed against former mayors, Catleen Periera (Shiv Sena) and Geeta Jain ( BJP) for concealing details about the immovable assets owned by them.
